Well we are already a month and a half into 2011 and in the way of event design it will be a very exciting year! Just as the fashion world is being inspired by the early seventies, so is the design world. For weddings and posh parties the new trend is jewel tones, lace texture, bold patterns, glass, and mirrors. This is great news is for those that like the extravagant look but don’t have the budget, with this years trends it is easy to get the look without the dough.
Colour
The bold colours of the year are sure to make a statement at your event. These beautifully saturated colours in themselves portray extravagance, and in ancient times were even used for only royalty. Green, Blue, Purple, Pink, and Yellow are the big ones and I am sure you will notice them in many great graphic poster’s from musician’s and trendy ad’s from the seventies.
Fashion
As you may have already noticed in many wedding gowns, texture’s such as lace or bold clean floral patterns are adding to the already stunning shape of the dress. The maxi gown style and baby doll waist has inspired the wedding gown designers. Now if you google fashion from 1970 you will see what I am talking about!
Decor
Now this is were I get really excited of course because this is my passion! Table cloth’s with bold patterns and large prominent textures make a huge statement when guest’s walk into the event. These can become pricey, but to keep the effect without using all of your budget another option is to only use them on the prominent tables, such as the head table. You can then use a colour that corresponds for the remaining tables.
Unique items such as lounge furniture or unique acrylic chairs are also making a huge statement. Of course Chivari chairs are always beautiful but as designers, we are trying to keep moving forward and create original designs with extraordinary pieces.
For table tops and room decor, original pieces such as candelabras and vases with bold texture or sparkle and shine are great design features to add to your event. Clear glass and mirrors are simple things that are trendy this year and they add a great sophistication to your design. Gems and small touches of sparkle in the details will make all the difference, and of course even more if they are in a bold colour as well.
As every year brings new and exciting design, this year will not fall short. There is such a broad spectrum that designs are on, there are no limits to what you can create.
